U.S. Futures Mixed Ahead of Jobless Claims

U.S. stock futures are mixed Thursday morning as investors await jobless claims data at 8:30 ET. Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 4 points to 12,290.00 and S&P 500 index futures fell 0.40 point to 1,323.50. Nasdaq 100 futures dropped 1 point to 2,333.50.

Negative sentiment ruled the European markets today. While STOXX Europe 600 Index has dropped 0.55%, London's FTSE 100 Index moved down 0.17%.

Family Dollar Earnings Top Estimates, Sending Shares Higher

Family Dollar (FDO) logoDiscount retailer Family Dollar Stores Inc. (FDO) reported its fiscal second quarter results this morning, topping analyst estimates and sending the stock higher in premarket trading.

For the quarter, Family Dollar reported it earned 98 cents per share, topping analyst estimates by a penny. During the same period last year, the company earned 81 cents per share.

U.S. stock futures are higher this morning, as investors await ADP employment data. Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average surged 51 points to 12,276.00, and those for the S&P 500 index gained 6.20 points to 1,322.70. Futures for the Nasdaq 100 index added 16.50 points to 2,339.00.

Overseas, positive sentiment ruled the European markets today. While STOXX Europe 600 Index has gained 0.79%, London's FTSE 100 Index moved up 0.50%.

U.S. stock futures are slightly higher this morning, as investors are awaiting data on home prices and consumer confidence. Futures on the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 18 points to 12,132.00 and S&P 500 index futures climbed 1.80 points to 1,304.00. Nasdaq 100 futures rose 5 points to 2,300.75.

Negative sentiment ruled the European markets today. While STOXX Europe 600 Index has dropped 0.51%, London's FTSE 100 Index moved down 0.30%. Most Asian markets ended lower, with Japan's Nikkei Stock Average dropping 0.21%, Australia's S&P/ASX 200 gaining 0.40% and China's Shanghai Composite falling 0.87%. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index lost 0.03% and India's Sensex surged 177.66 points.

U.S. stock futures are slightly higher this morning, as investors await economic data. Futures on the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 12 points to 12,182, while futures on the S&P 500 index rose 1.3 points to 1,311.30. Nasdaq 100 futures climbed 6.75 points to 2,323.75.

U.S. stocks closed higher on Friday, with the Dow Jones industrial average gaining 50 points to 12,221, the Standard & Poor's 500 Index rising 4 points to 1,314 and the Nasdaq Composite Index climbing 7 points to 2,743.

U.S. stock futures are higher Thursday morning as investors await economic data. Crude oil prices surged above $106 a barrel. Futures on the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 44 points to 12,065 and S&P 500 futures gained 5.50 points to 1,297.60. Nasdaq 100 futures jumped 16 points to 2,281.

U.S. stocks closed higher Wednesday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average rising 0.56% to 12,086, the S&P 500 index inching up 0.29% to 1,298 and the Nasdaq 100 index gaining 0.54% to 2,698.

Data on weekly jobless claims and durable-goods orders for February will be released at 8:30 a.m. ET.

U.S. Stock Futures Up as Investors Await New Home Sales Data

U.S. stock futures are higher Wednesday morning as investors await new-home sales data. Crude oil prices surged above $105 a barrel. Futures on the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 27 points to 11,982.00 and S&P 500 index futures rose 3.30 points to 1,291.60. Futures for the Nasdaq 100 rose 1 point to 2,258.25.

Stocks closed lower on Tuesday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropping 0.15% to 12,018.63, the S&P 500 index falling 0.36% to 1,294 and the Nasdaq 100 index declining 0.31% to 2,684.

Data on February new home sales will be released at 8:30 a.m. ET. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke will deliver a speech at the Independent Community Bankers of America National Convention.

U.S. stock futures are higher this morning as investors are awaiting economic data. Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 51 points to 11,629.00 and futures on the S&P 500 stock index climbed 8.30 points to 1,262.20. Nasdaq 100 futures rose 10.25 points to 2,218.75.

The weekly jobless claims are expected at 8:30 a.m. ET, as well as February's consumer price index. The Federal Reserve will issue industrial production figures for February, and the Philadelphia Federal Reserve Bank will report on regional economic activity.

Tsunami warnings were also issued for Hawaii, parts of the West Coast of the US and 19 other countries. Futures on the Dow Jones Industrial Average dipped 50 points to 11,870.00 and futures on the S&P 500 index fell 4.40 points to 1,285.10. Nasdaq 100 futures dropped 10.25 points to 2,270.50.

U.S. stock futures are higher Friday morning as investors await non-farm payroll data for February. Futures on the Dow Jones Industrial Average surged 32 points to 12,271.00 and futures on the S&P 500 stock index gained 2.80 points to 1,332.50. Nasdaq 100 futures rose 5 points to 2,376.75.

U.S. stocks closed higher, with the blue-chip Dow index surging 1.59%, or 191.40, to close at 12,258 on Thursday.

The jobs report for February will be released at 8:30 a.m. ET. Data on factory orders for January will be released at 10 a.m. ET.
