The rumormill got something right. Kind of. For the past week Apple sites have been buzzing about the imminent release of a new 23 inch iMac. They got the larger screen size right. The new 24 inch iMac was just announced today. Along with the announcement comes the note that the entire iMac line will feature a processor bump (to the Merom Intel chip -ed). Along with an unannounced Mac Mini bump to the Core Duo, all of Of course this means Apple feels secure that its September 12th event will not be overshadowed by this news. Should make for a fun Tuesday next week.

Umm... your research is a bit off... The iMac line has had the intel core duo processor since it's release with the intel chipset. This upgrade features a new processor (code name merom) which is faster than the dual core that is currently on the iMac, Mini, and Macbook / pro portable line of machines. This is a significant update, boasting speed increases of up to 50%.
