Apple after the bell 6/19/06: down a bit, but looking into adding movies to iTunes

Apple finished the first day of the start of the week at $57.20, down 36 cents. Not as dramatic a price drop as Friday, but still a slide. Investors may be jittery about Microsoft working on an iPod killer, though it seems as I said originally: this is a worry for the future, and the commenters on that article I wrote agree that Microsoft would have a long uphill battle to unentrench the iPod.

A more interesting worry is, when might Steve Jobs retire? The folks at The Unofficial Apple Weblog wrap their heads around this, while our own Brian White looks at it from a corporate standpoint. An Apple without Steve Jobs would certainly have an impact on the stock. And most likely a negative one, as he's come to represent Apple working at its iconic best: innovative, maverick, slick, cool, and at the edge of it all.

There is other news that will have a huge impact on the iTunes/iPod combination, and in a positve manner. Apple seems to be in talks to acquire adding movies to iTunes, a logical next step, but hard one when considering the stances taken by the industry previously. For iTunes to get first mover status in offering movies will be very huge in keeping it the most used media pipeline online.
