Apple after the bell 05-05-05: Waiting for the new MacBook

More

Apple's shares joined in the market's festivities today, rising 76 cents to close at $71.89.

The blogosphere spent most of the day mulling over when the Intel-based consumer laptop, unofficially dubbed the MacBook, would be released. MacRumors.com was reporting "an unverified anonymous source" that said it could be May 9. ThinkSecret also believes it will be that day. The site further pointed to a coding problem on Apple's site that, "has all but confirmed the MacBook moniker for the new consumer laptop."

Lots of Apple fans are eagerly awaiting the MacBook-for-amateurs, finding the new 17-inch MacBook Pro, retailing at a cool $2,729, a tad too expensive.
